EMDR Intensive Therapy represents a robust way to expedite the healing process, improving the benefits typically observed within a standard EMDR session. Instead of the customary weekly hour-long counseling sessions, participants allocate a dedicated timeframe—spanning three-four hours for one or three full days—for an immersive therapeutic engagement. This concentrated format enables individuals to harness the full potential of EMDR without prolonged intervals between sessions. By facilitating a deeper exploration and fostering expedited emotional recovery, it offers a pathway for individuals to experience profound improvement more swiftly.
Before diving into the EMDR Intensive, we conduct a Pre-Intensive Interview to clarify your goals. We'll delve into your current life situation—your support network, stressors, coping mechanisms, and areas where you seek relief, growth, or advancement.
During the EMDR Intensive, our focus is twofold: 1) Alleviating the pain of past experiences and 2) Enhancing the joy of positive aspects in your life. We achieve this through EMDR Reprocessing and various resourcing activities such as guided meditation, grounding activites, or artwork—all designed to integrate the bilateral stimulation employed in EMDR. Depending on your stage of personal development, we may explore early life relationships (e.g., attachment), or concentrate on future-oriented goals.
This journey is deeply personal and tailored to your specific needs. Following the Intensive, we schedule a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on the most impactful aspects of the experience and how you intend to integrate them into your life moving forward. I strongly encourage sharing insights with your loved ones, empowering them to support you and join in celebrating your progress!
The EMDR Intensive sessions are scheduled as follows:
This interview is a 90 minute session to determine the goals of the EMDR Intensive. During this session we begin to identify the specific painful memories, beliefs, or emotions that you want to heal from.
The workbook contains assessments and exercises designed to ready you for the Intensive. It serves as a tool for tracking your progress towards treatment goals both prior to, during, and following our sessions.
This part of the Intensive is 1-3 days for 3 hours per day. It is offered in both the North Canaan and Winsted locations. If appropriate, this can also be offered virtually. These sessions include resourcing activities customized for skills you need to manage distress and targeted treatment to address painful memories currently limiting your healing.
This is a 90-minute session scheduled for a few weeks after your Resourcing and Reprocessing Session(s). This session is used to debrief the experience of the intensive and discuss new insights, relief, and transformations you've noticed since the intensives. We will also create a plan for your continued healing as you move into your future.

An intensive regimen utilizing EMDR therapy emerges as a potentially safe and efficacious treatment avenue for complex PTSD.
The economic argument is compelling: compared to traditional trauma therapy approaches, the intensive format may streamline treatment duration by minimizing time allocated to a) session introspection, b) addressing immediate crises, c) cultivating stabilization and coping skills rendered unnecessary post-trauma healing, or d) assisting clients in session closure.

EMDR Intensives allow you to recieve the benefit of months of therapy in a short period of time. Instead of waiting months, you receive the benefits and relief of treatment in just a few days. The investment is similar to what you would pay over time for weekly therapy except with an intensive you receive immediate results in days.
